Liquid Crystal Paradise

Few things are worse than glaring at an ancient relic of a display for hours upon hours, the low refresh rate pummeling your vision; it's tantamount to introducing your eyeballs to sandpaper, and that's as far as I'll go with that gruesome analogy.

LCD displays are must have items; you can pick up a 19 inch model for about $500. Not only will you save a generous amount of space on your desktop, but you'll also combat eye fatigue via a flick-free, brighter screen. But LCD displays might not be everybody's cup of tea. CRT monitors are very affordable, the higher-end models being within most everybody's budget. Which one is the right display for you?

LCD Displays

Let's face it; LCD's are sleek and elegant, most of them using less than 75% less desk space than prehistoric CRT monitors. If your computer desk is in short supply of extra space, LCD displays can be easily mounted on a wall; this particular setup is especially good if you convert your PC into a home theater box. Eye strain is essentially eliminated, as LCD monitors employ a brightly lit screen that are virtually free from annoying flicker and glare.

Most LCD displays outlive their CRT predecessors by twofold and are not as greedy with electricity, as LCD displays usually use one-third less power. Heat output is also diminished, and no electromagnetic radiation is emitted. LCD displays demanded an arm and a leg in the past, but now, with prices dropping, purchasing one won't break the bank.

   CRT Monitors

Everybody had one of these antiques; there was no other choice. If you are on a budget, and you have the space to spare, a CRT can be an excellent value for the frugal shopper.

CRT monitors have become dramatically inexpensive, and most people have at least one lying around gathering dust somewhere. They make a great add-on to a multiple monitor configuration, mostly because they are so readily available. One thing that CRTs have over LCD displays is their ability to provide a full spectrum of brilliant hues and exact colors; factors that make them perfect for working with graphics or playing games.

If you have to do some belt tightening and don't mind the space a CRT will need, a CRT monitor may be the right choice for you.
