System "Freezes"

Hi, I have a PIII 450 running Win98SE. The computer "freezes" sometimes before the RAM count is finished, or after the OS has loaded or during the scandisk after an incorrect shutdown(because of the freeze) it even freezes when I use the startup disk.It also freezes when I enter the BIOS setup screen. I replaced the RAM, which didn't make any difference. I then placed the HDD and RAM in another computer and the they both work fine. Any suggestions what it could be? Thanks, Barry
